Leo J. Durrett

With a father in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Durrett spent his early school years traveling and living around the world from Japan to the Portuguese Azores and attended almost 20 schools before starting college. Late in high school he had the desire to be an orthodontist as the result of his own prior treatment. Living in the Midwest at the time, he then attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska for his undergraduate and dental degrees. Following that was a period spent teaching dentistry at Creighton before moving to Chicago to attend the orthodontic specialty program at the University of Illinois. With fond memories of the short time he lived there, Dr. Durrett moved to Florida from Chicago after finishing his orthodontic training. He has resided in St. Petersburg ever since with his wife, whom he met at Creighton, and three children who are now grown. Each attended only two schools before going to the University of Florida. His oldest son is practicing dentistry; the other son is an ophthalmologist, and his daughter is an orthodontist – all practice on Florida’s West Coast
